Brilliant space with some really interesting recreations and replicas. Fun to wander through the streets of the village and see the current excavations. The museum and cafe were excellent and that whole area is gorgeous.

The site was incredible. To be able to walk through a settlement that is almost 2000 years old is quite humbling. The staff were very helpful and the tour guide was full of wonderful information. Definitely recommend adding this place to your bucket list if you are able bodied.
An absolutely must visit. Everyone should come here. The ruins are beautifully excavated and preserved, with plenty of signage, and guided tours provide a wealth of knowledge and perspective. The museum is down a steep hill, so be prepared for a walk back up. It's rammed with artifacts and displays that will take a couple of hours to digest. Check website for when the public volunteer excavations are on, they are more than happy to answer questions. You can get a dual ticket for this site and the Roman Army Museum as well.
Such a cool site and so much history here! You could wander through these ancient foundations for hours. After you’re done, head down a lovely walk towards the museum where they have the Vindolanda tablets slowing ancient text, along with the skeleton of a young child that was buried.
Audley end house and gardens make a great day out. Attended the ww2 weekend which was absolutely brilliant and would certainly come again next year. And to get away from all the crowds, the grounds are quite something too.

It is a great way to spend a few hours on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The castle is a real rabbit warren.

Well maintained and lovely castle. So many years have passed since its prime but it still provides a sense of what it may have been in its prime. Good amount of posted presentations to help understand the various aspects of the buildings.

We visited this attraction today, and it really was like stepping back in time. There is so much history here, and the site has done a wonderful job of preserving and displaying what they have found.

It was an absolutely beautiful day to go visit as the weather was gorgeous.

The only thing I would suggest is maybe making the parking a bit closer to the exhibit. It was a bit of a hike for this tired, nearly 60 year old. I'm just saying!!

Other than the parking, I highly recommend this place for everyone.

An amazing site. A real jewel for England. Such a large and interesting place. The tour guides are so knowledgeable and interesting. The museum had so many artifacts and the hot soup in the Cafe was delicious. You can easily spend most of the day here. A must see. Make sure you do a guided tour.
A quintessential stately home set in Capability Brown landscaping. English Heritage have done very good job with the conservation and balanced our a accesss to the house so we can best enjoy it. Brilliant.
Lovely walk in to the history. Amazing walls.
Kids enjoyed the history lessons too. 😊
Audley End makes a gentle day out. Plenty of room to stroll and enjoy some scenery. If you need some greenery and ducks it's perfect! We really enjoyed the gardens in spring.
The house is interesting, especially if you like classic portraits. But the more curious things are explained to you by the staff. Worth asking!
Only downside was the price for refreshments. Plenty of room for picnics tho.
Nestled in southwest London, this spot probably is not frequented by most tourists to London, but it's a great one to check out. The guides were so knowledgeable, and there is quite a bit of history to learn about the house and it's former owner.
Walk the full length of the wall

Day 1: Bowness-On-Solway to Carlisle (Ibis Hotel)
Day 2: Carlisle to Gilsland (Chapel House Farm)
Day 3: Gilsland to Hexham (Greencarts Farm)
Day 4: Hexham to Heddon On The Wall (Houghton North Farm Bunkhouse)
Day 5: Heddon On The Wall to Wallsend

A great experience and everyone we met along the way were so friendly and helpful!

Brilliant example of a medieval fortification with a small cafe and gift shop. Dog-friendly which is always a bonus.

My only gripe would be that there weren't many information boards knocking about.
10/10. A bit pricey but worth to pay the entrance fee and visit the magnificent interior of the house along with the outside rooms and gardens which are really big and so beautiful, looked after. Had an amazing day out in there and you can also have a cuppa and some snacks or food :)
Do go, it is astonishing, a fantasy gothic folly by Walpole....!
Extensively restored by the Strawberry House team.
I was there 20 years ago, and it was crumpling Paper Mache, it is now splendid.
Amazing day out with the kids and very educational, displays laid out to help with ruins of the buildings. The museum is also definitely worth a visit.

Attended an Easter event here. The castle is stunning and the children enjoyed exploring and taking part in the egg hunt. Definitely worth a visit, it had rained a lot the day before so the grounds were very muddy and some parts of the castle were unsafe. Lovely picnic area with benches by the gift shop and a nice place for the children to run around. This is a dog friendly place.
Uneven terrain, muddy, lots of steps, narrow walkways (reception, toilets, gift shop) quite difficult with a pushchair.

It's a nice castle to explore but there is no path from the main entrance to the actual castle. You have to walk across the grass. Not ideal in the wet weather. Not great for disabled visitors. Great for kids to explore. Nice coffee shop/restaurant on site.

A great example of medieval architecture, great structure. Plenty of rooms to explore and some stairways to climb ( with care ) great views from the top of the castle. Dog Friendly ( dogs allowed on leads) Castle is privately owned. If the weather is wet or has been wet good footwear is required as the pathways do get muddy.
This is a remarkable building which has been incredibly preserved to give visitors a real taste of history. Once visited it becomes clear why it is one of the jewels in the English Heritage collection. There are many well furnished rooms to look around and a decent tea room to relax in. The gardens seemed to be quite decent but I didn't have time to tour them properly. The one part I did try to visit, the walled garden, was unfortunately closed.
The main reason I have not been able to award this place the full five stars is because of their ban on photography in the main house. I can understand there being no flash photography but no photography at all seems excessive. I am aphantasic which means I can't picture images in my mind so photos are really important to me as a memory. No photos means I have no real memory of the building at all which is a huge disappointment. I would strongly encourage English Heritage to look again at this ban to see if it can be relaxed.
Apart from that it is a wonderful place that I would encourage anyone to visit.

I did not have the time to visit inside the church, but you do have a great view around. It is also a bit creepy with the dark sky as it still remains a cemetery.

Enjoyed our visit, amazing ruins of a Fort and defensive wall built at the behest of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Also an interesting display of artifacts found in the area, and lots of information, also a tea room and a nice walk by the wall.
Really interesting historic building. Especially loved rhe medieval wall paintings
Loved this house! The architecture was beautiful and very friendly tour guides around the house, willing to give you information on the house and it’s collection.
Really lovely English Heritage property. Beautiful grounds and plenty to do for children including playground and a nursery with toys and dressing up items. Riders stop horses so children can stroke them.
It is set in a beautiful location, and the house has some fascinating elements. It's a good visit for a lazy weekend, but still, it is limited and seems a tad too steep at £15. A visit may be worthwhile if you live nearby, but a long journey probably doesn't seem worth the effort. The staff are pleasant and knowledgeable, and the surroundings add to the atmosphere.
Alles is teveel, less is more. Aanrader!
This fake medieval castle have a lot of features to inspire people with. It is a theatrical mesh-mash of features plucked from various places. “This is clever”, “this combination is good”, “am I in Rivendell” and “oh, i want this is my house” are what I said during the tour. It is a pity that the original contents of the house are lost.

It is not that big but the visit was enjoyable.

Must see!
Had a fabulous day with lots to learn and see.

The home of Charles Stuart during the last battle of the English civil war. It started life as an infirmary until the dissolution by Henry, well worth a visit the history of the house is unbelievable it's reputed to be haunted, events all year check website. Lovely independent cafe by the canal free to enter, charges to go in the museum/ garden, gift shop on site. Part of the Worcester February living history festival.

Great place to visit, we visited on a Living History weekend, the events and shows for those are better on a Saturdays than Sundays.
£20ish for 2 adults and 2 children , well worth it.
Cafe is absolutely marvellous. Great coffee and hot toasties, delicious tempting cakes.
An amazing place to visit if you have any interest in Roman history and the Roman rule of Britain. Good facilities, the cafe was nice, the museum was excellent and the displays were well done. The site itself is a must see. Very quiet in February during the week.
Interesting day out. Definitely has to be an outdoor person to enjoy the visit. You also need good hiking boots and warm clothing.
The gift shop and café come in very handy for refreshment after the walk.
So wonderful to see, and the tour guides were awesome! We watch The Victorian Way, and it was a delight to see where the magic happens! So pleased it's been opened for the public! We will be back!
Really just popped in for a look as we were driving up to Scotland so although the weather was bad we had a coffee in the cafe and a quick walk. I will definitely go back and explore more sections possibly. So much history to take in. Staff at the museum were also knowledgeable and really helpful.
A historical house with lots of stories. I really enjoyed my time there. There were people in every room that explained everything about the house. They were very informative and nice. A must see.

Even on an overcast February day, the views around, and from the top of the castle, are breathtaking.
It's not the biggest castle around (they're not building any more) but there is plenty to see and investigate for the relatively well priced entry fee.
Attended a tour where we were given a good history of the place and the various owners. There were lots of interesting facts and fascinating anecdotes. Well worth a visit
This was a really enjoyable rainy day out. Lovely walking around and learning the history of the family and their grand home. Met one of the horses close up and got to ask questions about him. My girls played in the little park. Not much in the way of lunch choices, and really long queues but we did get to the restaurant late. We would love to return in the summer to enjoy the grounds more.

Amazing building, so much of our history happend in Worcester. Wandering room to room is like stepping into a time machine. Great fun in the dressing up room . Not to be missed.

Ganz interessant gemacht.
