Dinner there with my wife and kid, wait staff super friendly and gave us a good table that wasn't too cold. The food was amazing! A little pricey but amazing, the roast duck is highly recommended as well as the fried garlic chicken.

Great atmosphere, it got a little fuller as we were finishing and naturally a little more noisier, but great experience

Nice Chinese restaurant with excellent service and vibes. The dishes were served at a comfortable pace, not in a rush, and still can keep it fresh in optimal temperature.
I was hosted at back to back meals (dinner followed by lunch the next day) and had two completely different meals, both outstanding. Loved the marinated drunken crab and the Peking duck. The one dish that overlapped was a potato starch noodle dish that was excellent.
Cold like a freezer. A few tables complained about the strong AC but the manager didn't adjust the temperature.

They never refill the tea for us but only pour hot water.

Not vegetarian friendly at all.

The toilet is very dirty and small.

The Claypot are not hot enuf.

The black sesame buns with flowy custard isn't flowy.

The desserts such as milk pudding are overly floury. Yhe only thing I appreciate here is the crispy skin rice sheet rolls.

💚Steamed Stinky Bean Curd and Vegetable Stem
- Super Stinky, Stinkest in HK, according to what I have tried till now
- you can tell just by the green liquid
- 5 times stinkier than HK Street Food Deep-Fried Stinky Tofu

🦀🐖🥬Steamed Minced Pork Bean Curd Sheet Rolls with Crab Roe
- Generous Portion of Crab Roe, Umami
- Minced Pork Bean Curd Sheet Roll has a rich taste with different textures
- Slightly chewy Steamed Bean Curd Sheet
- Fluffy & Savory Minced Pork with a great balance of Fats & Lean Meat

🍜🐟🥬Noodles in Soup with Yellow Croaker and Preserved Vegetables
- Milky Color Slightly Thick Fish Broth unleashed intense fish flavors
- Springly Thin Noodles delicately absorb the broth. Wise to pair up slightly thick & intenses broth with thin Noodles and savory & refreshing Preserved Vegetables to ⚖️ balance the heaviness

🍆Stir-Fried Eggplant with Hangzhou Chili
- the beautiful purple color, form and texture of eggplants perfectly shows the chef's mastery skills
- Some Chili was really hot🔥

🐖Pig's Kidney Special Sauce
- Xmas Tree Plating spreads Happiness
- Flower Petals shaped Kidney shows how perfect the chef master the skills of using knife
- Crunchy & Fresh. No uncomfortable taste of offals means the cleaning work was done perfectly without influencing the shape
- personally, prefer soy sauce & freshly sliced chili and scallion instead of sweet Hoisin sauce, cause the former one helps to make the umaminess more prominent

🍚Lotus Root stuffed with Glutinous Rice in Syrup
- those little Osmanthus unleashed strong aroma
- quite sweet, not my thing

🖌Chinese Character of Hong Zhou Restaurant 杭州酒家 was Calligraphed by 金庸 Jin Yong
Excellent variety of dishes from Hong Zhou region with superb service. Little different fare from the normal Cantonese food, and a definite restaurant to enjoy and return to frequently.
Chinese Library is a fine-dining restaurant in the old Police HQ Block 1 at Tai Kwun. You will find an elegant indoor seating area along with terrace seating with views down into the old parade grounds. Reservations are highly recommended if seeking a table during peak meal times, weekends or public holidays.

Menu features traditional Chinese dishes. Note that a couple of signature dishes require advance order with your reservations. These include the very 45-day Peking Duck (one or two courses) which is as good as advertised. There is a separate dim sum brunch menu, multi-course tasting menu, wine list and you can order cocktails from the Dispensary Bar adjacent to the restaurant.

During our recent meal, we found the 45-day Peking Duck (first course only) to be excellent. The skin was very crispy, meat succulent. The pancakes were razor thin, 5 different sauces provided for preparing wraps. This was a great Peking Duck order, about as good as we can recall being served in recent years.

The Sweet & Sour Iberian Pork was also quite good, something familiar and easy enjoy for those with less adventurous pallets when it comes to Chinese dining. We also very much liked the braised noodles with mushroom and truffle and found the pumpkin crusted cake from the sweet dim sum/dessert menu, a fine way to conclude a very good meal at Chinese Library.

Allow 90-120 minutes for your meal, HKD $1K+ per person. There are some dress code requirements but as long as you are not dressed inappropriately, they are not overly strict, especially on hot and humid days.

This has got to be one of the most divine dining experiences that I've had around Asia. It doesn't seem like much, especially knowing that HK boasts some of the best designed, most elegant restaurant set ups. But when you're done with your meal, you'll feel like you've just gone to Disneyland and back.

Every course of the meal was carefully thought through and rendered. Every dish, a unique addition to the next. Every bite, is an explosion of taste, and the chef's skills.

Some of the must-try dishes:
Deep Fried Fermented Beancurd filled with Salted Fish and Taiwanese Preserved Tofu
Camphor Wood Smoked Black Foot Goose
Double Boiled Vegetables with Fried Pork Skin and Dried Cherry Blossom Shrimps
Beef Short Ribs Chinese Cured Liver Sausages Claypot Rice

Assuming that you can even get a seat, please do make sure you at least try once, ever.
Great cantonese upper-class cuisine.
The duck is a must try!
Cocktails are well mixed, and the wine selection is great!
Loved the interior🚀
Still the best dim sum for me in Hong Kong. One of my fav thrpugh out the world. All the food never disapoints.

Saturday lunch
3 of us

Recommended by a friend last year.

Ambience: very nice setting, clean, a bit like fine dining setup, but the layout of the inside a bit tricky many halls. But everything just nice

Service: fast, attentive, though feels a bit like a fench fine dining restaurant

Foods: some 8 and 9 out of 10. Looks like they tend to use Malas in some of the menus which we are not too fond of. But the taste is wonderful anyway. Maybe more like Shanghainese taste my friend said.

Want to try their famous of infamous peking duck but the answer is always “need to order 2 months in advance”… hahaha we think we never try it .. who still remember ordering peking duck 2 months ago.

Anyway nice restaurant with good unique foods

I almost didn't try Chinese Library out because of some of the reviews here that talk about some operational hiccups. I'm so glad I brought my family here to enjoy the creative cuisine and excellent service of the front-of-house staff!

Dim sum is an exceptionally hard cuisine to mess with because if a chef doesn't ground their spins on what's known, it's too far removed from dim sum, but if you ground it too closely to the origin dishes you haven't done enough beyond just "fancifying" the dishes with premium ingredients.

Junno Li and his team nails taking familiar dishes and adding distinct creative twists that aren't just novel, but also delight in both taste and visual presentation with ingredients that are still very much grounded in dim sum's Guangdong origins. That is an exceptionally hard, and rare balance to hit—visual AND taste!

As for FOH service, the team was spot on during our visit, always making sure we had what we need, that our teapots are filled, and everyone's needs were taken care of.

I think some of the less than stellar reviews might be during the time that many restaurants in HK were still struggling to staff up post re-emergence from the pandemic restrictions. It certainly has taken the F&B sector some time to get back on their operational feet again. If the service we experienced during our visit is any indication, they're back running at full pace, and I wouldn't have any concerns for lapse of service.

It's definitely an easy spot to recommend for brunch dim sum service. We'll definitely have to return to try out dinner service.
Very unique cantonese cuisine, tasty and very presentable. But not your traditional trolley dim sum place.
An Ok Chiu Chau restaurant with slight above average food. The goose dish was very impressive with tender meat and good seasoning. The tofu is another dish that worth trying as the texture was different from regular tofu and filled with soy aroma. The soups had to be preordered but was quite flat. Rest of dishes were regular and standard. MSG level was low though and ingredients were fresh. The classic green bean dessert came with a different type of dumplings and not chewy enough which flatten it a bit.

It is on a pricy side though. Service was good and attentive but the floor probably used wrong tile and have a slippery feeling. Ambience is ok and busy. Seating was comfy and not too noisy.

overpriced for cheap ingredients, not worth paying that money , the fried rice is super Normal , and the fried noodle is really horrible , that standard is bad and the price is not tally with the food
Fantastic area with plenty of space, perfect decoration, very comfortable tables and seats. We had the unlimited brunch and really enjoyed the food. The appetizers were great, especially the pork knuckle with wasabi and the deep fried meatballs. The dim sum were perfect, our favourite were the roasted chicken puff with almond, the katsuobushi turnip cake and the black truffle hargau. The mains we chose were the fish maw served with chicken liver and the Sichuan mapo tofu with minced pork (without rice), which were both good. The shakura shrimp noodles with scallion oil sauce to share was delicious. Finally the desserts were very nice especially the deep fried sesame balls. Finally we had ginger oolong tea which was very flavorful!!! The price is perfect for such a quantity of good food, I strongly recommend it!!!

Food was good. Price is fair. Service was great. Came here 4 times in one week for breakfast
Finally making a reservation over the phone in English doesn't require 10 laborious calls that still leave you unsure if you have a confirmed booking.

Bookings can be made within a week however the Peking duck can sell out weeks in advance. As an alternative the pigeon is absolutely delicious.

Other dishes that require advance order: braised fish maw in chicken soup, deep fried pepper mantis prawn, yellow pond turtle soup, older duck soup with taro

I also appreciate that they will pack the appetizer snacks if you ask.
The food was quite good. I would suggest to come with a bigger group so that you can try more stuff. Their location is near wanchai station A2 exit. Also the dessert is good too. On the other side the sound level is quite high in this restaurant. It will be difficult to chat.

I am a full time foodies and explorer. 😚

Cozy Chinese restaurant with good food, especially the Baked Fresh Pomfret Rice on Hotpot and Panfried Rice Cake with Brown Sugar. Subtle entrance is like in stealth mode.

It is a Michelin 1-star restaurant. Great HongZhou cuisine。The portion size is relatively small but the food quality is above average. It is expensive though.

The environment is ok but it could be noisy if there is a banquet dinner in the open area.

Special dim sum selections of Chaozhou cuisine. More expensive than regular cantonese dim sum but worth the experience. The side dishes are delicious but they are not complementary. The oyster omelet seemed to be oil-fried instead of the usual panfried variety. The new style is more crunchy and savory than the original.
Food was under average, considering the comparatively high price point (HKD500-600pp for around four to five dishes for a party of four) and small portion sizes. The different dishes we ordered were distinctive in taste which was good, but they failed to leave a lasting impression.

Chinese food has great potential to be memorable, but this relies on the ingenuity of the chef to give the dish a unique twist to position it top of mind when one recalls that cuisine. HEXA comes to mind - HEXA command their price point by applying an assertive, innovative twist to each dish they serve.

Service at Hong Zhou was acceptable, with the exception of one staff member who was (sarcastically?) pushy. It is, however, a nice setting. The tables have sufficient spacing in between them allowing parties to have comfortable conversations, and the ambience was generally good.

I had high hopes for this restaurant following a friend's recommendation, but I felt it failed to live up to the expectations it had set for itself simply based on the premium pricing and lackluster service.

Perhaps you may have a different experience.
