People compared this to the Parthenon but honestly it is at a different scale. A better reference is the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, which is exactly the same and with the same architect (?), though half destroyed and less preserved. So please go visit both temples, the comparison makes you appreciate both more!

It was a very sunny and hot day but I'm glad we made our trip here. Entrance into the area was 10 euros per ticket per adult. What fascinated me is how well preserved it was! You can still see the details on the top. You can also see how the columns are actually built, in stacks. Now I know why our Acropolis tour guide Oratrice told us that the columns are earth quake proof. On the way up to the temple I could imagine myself as the farmer villager who is leading my sacrifice up the temple to be sacrificed... A must visit, and thanks to my tour guide who recommended us to come take a look! I came in Apr, off peak season. No wait but there were groups and groups of school students.

I honestly wasn't about to walk up.the stairs to the temple. But decided that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I couldn't be that close and not go. Well worth every last tiring step.it took me to get there.

This is a large site full of surprises and impressive finds.
We wanted to go as the Temple of Hephaestus is the best preserved temple of its kind in Greece. What we found was a massive site, which includes both the temple and the ancient Agora (market), many building as well as the museum which showcases the finds from the site.

Like many sites of its kind, it has been used for trade and worship since pre-historic times until recent history. The finds reflect this journey.

The site itself is located right below the Acropolis, and on a clear day, it's size and locations offers a natural, unobstructed view of the Acropolis, above.

We explored the site, it's many paths and discoveries, all steeped in local flora. It's size allows freedom of movement and exploration, and the buildings, ruins and statues are absolutely wonderful.

Site entry in €10 per person (€5 between November and April). They offer a "bundle" ticket for €30 for all the archaeological sites in the city (incl. The Acropolis, which, in high season is €20 per person). Worth checking first!

We were here on a Saturday of a long weekend. There was a queue that took around 10mins to go through. Getting there, though, meant going through very, very crowded areas.
