As this is the most established Michelin One Star restaurant in Penang, I therefore have the highest expectations, and the most critical in giving my rating.
Atmosphere: Excellent ambience. Interior deco is tasteful, romantic and well maintained. The shabby zinc sheet exterior of the building (see photo) is an excellent piece of art =) giving this restaurant the feel of "a hidden gem".
Service: Excellent service. Attentive, polite, and graceful. Very knowledgeable about their food menu as well. Folding of napkin when guest leaves the table briefly is being done, which is what I expect from a restaurant of such a status =) Good job.
Food: Excellent culinary skill by the kitchen team. Use of Malaysia local ingredients to make them into French haute cuisine is an excellent move. Every dish has its unique presentation, taste and texture. Molecular gastronomy is also exhibited throughout the tasting menu. I can say that this restaurant sits among the better French haute cuisine I had ever tasted around the world.
Now, why the low rating of 2 stars from me? It is because this restaurant failed its Wine Pairing. And in my opinion, failed rather terribly. Their choice of having a 2019 Classical Chianti to pair with the signature smoked duck main course was a total failure in my opinion. Their smoked duck has been prepared to be rather sweet, as well as the accompanying sauce. The tannin from the Chianti clashed terribly with the duck, bringing out the worst from the duck and the wine. When I asked the staff what they could do about it, the restaurant manager suggested to replace with the bubbly rosé that was used to pair with the first starter. I am afraid that is the wrong answer. I thus have a feeling that the restaurant does not have a competent wine sommelier on site. If not for my counter suggestion to replace with the German riesling that was used to pair with the 3rd course, the smoked duck main course would have been a total disaster. Do note that the restaurant also does not have any other wine they could serve by glass apart from the wine pairing list. Therefore, for this terrible mistake made by the restaurant, my final verdict is a 2 star. If not for the good service and excellent food, I would have given a 1 star and perhaps recommend to Michelin to reconsider their star as well. I hope the restaurant learns.

Amazing culinary experience. The degustation menu is totally worth it (I recommend to call ahead to book the duck, which needs 48h preparation).
Don’t be fooled by the outside “shabby” look (purposely left as it used to be). Inside it’s a proper Michelin starred restaurant!

The best meal we had with so many surprises that we couldn't stop gushing about the food. The Chef was very creative and the combination of tastes and textures was amazing --- so interesting in a good way. All the dishes in the menu were exquisite! The pairing of alcohol was exceptional as well considering they informed us they had no sommelier at the moment. Service was top notch as well. Thanks to the whole team for this experience. And we are sure they will earn another star or two soon. Well done!
미슐랭 1스타 답게 메뉴구성이나 스토리가 좋았어요. 훈제 오리는 예약할때 미리 말해야 먹을 수 있어서 이 부분만 확인하시면 좋은 식사 하실거라고 생각합니다. 마지막으로 기념품처럼 주는 핫도그도 센스있다고 생각해요.
这家店是无意中点了就来了，订了才发现没有的选菜单，因为这里的菜单是餐厅安排好了的🤔 先说说环境，这里的设计是蛮时尚的，简单的工业风配合落地玻璃，自己感觉一下.然后这里整体的整洁是蛮不错，而且洗手间也是干干的，还贴心准备小毛巾擦手，环境有分两个part ，开放的或者隐秘一点的.餐点方面就看主厨的设计了，我们吃了都觉得他的菜都会带来小小的惊喜，口感除了细腻，吃下去的层次感真的是非常的不会形容.服务非常的贴心，而且每次都会细说菜的做法和材料.体验是蛮不错，如果二人世界还是聚餐都真的不错哦.推荐..车位有点少
[1-Star Michelin] Au Jardin serves out a wonderful dinner using the freshest local ingredients with French cooking techniques. Love the way chef incorporates Asian flair into every dish, familiar yet different. Love the chicken rice and the green curry prawns but the star of the show is the hay-smoked duck. Amazing! 👍🏻
My partner and I came here for a New Year’s Eve dinner and was so happy we made it there!

Each plate was truly memorable, from the amuse bouche, thosai bread and tomato puree butter, to the caviar, super succulent lamb, palate cleanser, dessert. No plate was less than exceptional!
Will definitely be returning (when our wallets allow 😅) no questions asked!

I had the holiday set menu. The presentation of the food was excellent, and I enjoyed trying Malaysian ingredients with more modern dishes. The spare ribs were amazing, and the tomato chutney butter was the best fancy butter I ever had. I wish the menu overall had leaned more on the Malaysian flavors. The non-alcoholic pairing was interesting, though most drinks were too sweet.
The staff was efficient, but they need to work on customer service. I arrived 8 minutes early (they had messaged me to tell me not to be late), and the hostess turned me back at the door and literally told me to go outside for a walk. They didn't even allow me to wait in the air conditioned lobby.
