I was only able to see the three ships due to external time constraints (not the fault of the museum) but even the three ships were worth it. Very well maintained, lots of interesting historical information, and the people working there (especially on the stream ship) were very helpful and knowledgeable.
Wish I had more time to explore. Such an interesting museum. I recommend the North area (boat) and the East side, Floor 1 (particularly the map/cartography room)

This is a museum you don’t want to miss. It had such a cool and hipster vibe. It had beautiful art, not your usual art, rather the authentic hip kind of art. They featured Robbie Williams, Banksy, Warhol and so many others. We really enjoyed this experience
One of the best museums I've visited.✨ Fits modern art and a charming old building perfectly together somehow. Staff was very friendly.🩷 The spaces in the building are quite small, which is probably why the capacity is limited and tickets should be bought online in advance. Some additional art is also available outside when you exit so be sure not to miss those! 🫶
Much more intetesting than I expected, with old nautical instruments, old maps and ships ornaments. You xan also visit the ship in front of it. Have a coffee in the inner court, it's a beautiful relaxing place, designed as a compass.

Outside a building of impressive classic architecture. Inside a challenging and inspiring collection of various arts. Triggering your vision, ears and feel. Cosy inner garden with a profi cafe.
If you love history and want to learn/see something about Dutch navy, ships, this will be perfect place for you. You have inside museum but also you can have outside look. Inside you have more floors and all is made very nice.I think museum is family friendly and they also have part for kids. Personally I am not big fun of this type of museums but it was nice to see something different.
By far, one of my favorite museums in Amsterdam. I've only visited the museum in this temporary location, which it shares with the former Hermitage Museum. But I must say the location and the space are really nice - especially the gardens and the view from the Amstel river. This is the perfect museum for those who want to escape the overcrowded, more famous museums. It features a small permanent exhibition that tells the story of Amsterdam; this is perhaps the best curatorial work I've seen in Dutch museums. The audio guide is a must. Since it is a small exhibition, it’s perfect for an early morning visit or an after-lunch break. They always have excellent small temporary exhibitions too, which are always worth seeing. I always recommend this museum to anyone visiting Amsterdam.
An amazing gallery space and garden, lovely food, well worth making a visit.

Not overly impressive and much smaller than expected. We finished in 20 minutes. I had hoped for more for the price and the good reviews. Also not suitable for people with disabilities as there are only stairs and no elevator. Nevertheless, the works and the atmosphere were beautiful.
Man sollte v.a.
A fascinating and enriching experience!

The exhibits are well-curated, offering deep insights into the city's rich history and culture. The interactive displays and multimedia presentations make learning engaging and enjoyable.

It's a must-visit for anyone wanting to understand Amsterdam's unique heritage.
This was my favorite museum that we visited in Amsterdam, especially after the crowds at the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. It would be easy to be intimidated by the size of the building and the ship outside, but we found the space manageable to peruse in about 2.5 hours. I deeply appreciated the museum's reckoning with the atrocities of Dutch colonialism, though at times the effects were mentioned but not sufficiently explored. I loved the almost free rein we had to explore the Amsterdam ship reconstruction, especially the opportunity to see the engineering behind the rudder. It's a really great space overall and I anticipate visiting again on my next visit to the city.

A different museum, quite curious.
They have a small interactive part, and almost everything is a museum with modern art.
Banksy's part is pretty good.
They have a garden with other works that you can climb and take photos.
I expected less, but I liked it.
I visited the museum to view the exhibition on the Lenape native peoples. I enjoyed the extensive use of oral, storytelling formats and videos. The audio tour was extensive. There was text, too but the oral nature of exhibits was the emphasis. Texts and sound in English and Dutch.

The museum is shared with the H’ART (formerly the Hermitage) Museum. Entrance is free with the museumkaart.

Accessibility: There is a lift for those who cannot take the many staircases in the building.

The garden in had courtyard is large and inviting. There is a small structure where you can get desserts and beverages.

Made a quick stop here. There are some famous contemporary pieces here but also some that are of average quality that didn’t give me the impression of being authentic, maybe a bit too POP to be really interesting … but anyways, City Card for free entry. Also, the light installation had only one room that looked quite cool, the others were sort of a surplus for the quantity not quality
Lovely museum with a small collection of works from all over the world. Ranging from the 15th century to very recent. The Royal wall tapestry display is a must see. Temporary exhibition in May of 2024 was by Kees Stoop.

We went there on a Wednesday at 1pm so it was not too crowded but still a bit for the size of the museum. It was surprising to see that the museum was this nice little castle house ! I have to admit that the funniest part (for me) was the 'immersive' one, it was really beautiful and captivating. However, I feel like the whole museum in itself felt like it was a bit short to see, we did not spend a lot of time in there ( ~50 min) but it's not dramatic at least you don't have the time to get bored. It was still a really nice activity to do, I definitely recommend ⭐.
Jammer...
The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands was a real treat. There was so much to see. The museum is well laid out and fun to tour through.

The full-size ship docked at the museum was exciting to explore. I only hit my head once! It is truly hard to believe how people sail so far on ships so small compared to ships of today.

The display of ship's mastheads was impressive and interesting to view. The very large and detailed model ships were magnificent. The atrium in the center of the museum is very large and inviting. It is a great place to take a break and relax.

This is one museum you don't want to miss when you are in Amsterdam. It has something of the entire family.

Enjoy!

Sunday afternoon. Couple of nice pieces there but nightmare to enjoy time there due to crowded spaces. On the website there are time slots to be chosen but apparently you can get in at any time - as we did 😉 Good for us, but viewing art was super exhausting and I was as checking their museum tour map to see how much till end so we can finish. Inside was stuffy and super hot. Clock room 1€ per item.
It's a nice little museum with some interesting pieces. A mix of pictures, sculptures, and digital pieces. Make sure to download the app when you're walking around outside of the museum.

It's also not far from the tram, which makes it easy to get to. Plenty of museums and art galleries in the area.
Amazing customer service.
We had free hour and accidentally dropped by.
Well worth a visit especially if interested maritime history allow 2hours.
Will definitely make more time on next trip.
The ship was so cool
After some deliberation, I have decided to purchase a museum card as a gift for myself, over the next 12 months, the intention is to earn back the € 75.00 instead of paying for everything and being more expensive. I think of visiting (old) windmills, forts, castles and old buildings.
The museum was recommended to me by a friend for the great historical information presented in an interesting way - for example the inside of a house or the device used to lift ships through the narrow canals. I was extremely disappointed to find out only AFTER going through the museum (and asking at the entrance because something seemed off) that it is now moved from the original location, which is being renovated. Only part of the exhibits are available - mostly just paintings and some short videos. There was nothing interactive and even with the audio guide got boring quickly. Not a good place for kids. I actually feel cheated about wasting one of our two precious days in Amsterdam on this place. It should be made more clear that this is not the full Amsterdam history museum that people might expect from previous reviews and recommendations.

The museum is small but gave a good overview of Amsterdam's history.

My husband enjoyed it more than I did. I found the audio guide a little annoying that I had to hold it up to my ear like a phone. I prefer when they are hands free.

There was ab amazing view of the canal from the ladies toilets and the surrounding area was beautiful.
Now located at the Hermitage (look for the Hart Museum) while the original site undergoes restoration, this exhibit tells the story of Amsterdam starting from about the 1600s to modern times. There are audio tours available, but all the descriptions are in English so it’s not necessary unless you’re into that. It’s best to start the tour at the beginning, which is on the right side by the top steps. A solid museum with lots visuals (mostly antique paintings) that complement the written history.
The Maritime Museum has amazing art and history of the Dutch navy. The old naval storehouse is a nice touch. But the museum is not kids proof as advertised. It lacks fun, interactive, and convenient features for children and families. Good for adults who love art and history. 3 stars.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and calm, which made my visit all the more enjoyable. One thing I particularly appreciated about the museum was the diversity of art and objects on display. There were various creative displays throughout the museum, including philosophical texts that sparked my interest. Overall, I highly recommend this museum to anyone looking for a unique and inspiring cultural experience.
It’s not the favourite! Overrated I would say, the conflict and war exhibit that was at the museum was what I enjoyed the most. There were some interesting paintings and statues. The museum doesn’t have a clear theme to follow.
Not very big, but some interesting exhibitions
The Amsterdam Museum is a smart organized space. Here you can see antique and modern art. A nice addition is seasonal exhibition. I was lucky to learn more about Julius Caesar. Very cool cafe and master classes for children are excellent. Great place for a pleasant weekend.

Worth the visit of this old house where used to be the house and workshop of city planners and carpenters. Volunteers take care of the space now and they have temporary artist exibithions.
