Great introduction in Thai culture, with a very well executed, inviting exhibition. You get a good overview quickly but can go really in depth with the enthusiastic staff. The restaurant on site is really good too. Close to great sights such as Wat Pho and Grand Palace, so definitely include this in your itinerary
The staff at Khao Sok Elephant Sanctuary are super knowledgeable and friendly! They share tons of cool facts about the elephants and give you plenty of chances to feed them. It's a fun and educational experience!
The museum was full of interactive activites from treasure hunt to history show and role play activity. My kid absolutely loved playing card games to know more about Thai culture. The traditional food room was fun, too. Strongly recommend to families with kids.

View @ Museum Siam.
.
An interactive discovery museum established in 2007, this place seeks to educate on the national identity and history of the people of Thailand, through interesting and fun exhibits.
.
Walk through showcases of Thai fashion, homes, objects from daily life, food, sports like Muay Thai, cultural traditions, or river life; and experience 'Thai-ness', the essence of what makes the Thai people.
.
Good fun while being informative and educational.
. Engaging Exhibits: Unlike traditional museums, Museum Siam employs an "edutainment" approach, featuring interactive displays and multimedia presentations that make learning about Thai history and culture both educational and entertaining.

. Historical Building: The museum is housed in a beautiful neo-classical building, originally constructed in 1922, which once served as the Ministry of Commerce. The architecture itself is a fascinating blend of Western and Thai design elements.

. Concept of 'Discovery': The museum's permanent exhibition is themed around the concept of "Discovery," guiding visitors through 14 different rooms that explore various aspects of Thai identity, history, and cultural evolution.

. Temporary Exhibitions: In addition to its permanent collection, Museum Siam regularly hosts temporary exhibitions that cover a broad range of topics, often collaborating with international museums to bring unique and diverse perspectives to its visitors.

. Cultural Activities: The museum is not just a place for passive observation. It frequently organizes workshops, cultural activities, and interactive events that allow visitors to immerse themselves in traditional crafts, cuisine

Worth stopping here and catching the train on it's way back to Kanchanaburi. Great views and a very nice Buddha in the cave. Wooden seating in the train is brutal, try and get a padded seat!
Learnt so much about Thai culture here

It was really great to see all the modern artefacts of Thai culture explained in such a friendly and informative way

I already love Thailand but this museum just helped me appreciate Thai culture even more!

They have Student ID discounts, free audio guides, and the entrance ticket is super cute to keep 😍

Prachtige plek. Zeer zorgvuldig in omgang met de olifanten. Goede uitleg. Serene plek.

The ticket is quite affordable in my opinion and was money well spent. The museum is conveniently located a few minutes' walk away from the pier. The building itself is very beautiful and if you have time after all the exhibits, enjoy some drinks or snacks from the food trucks / mini cafes in the museum garden.

The exhibits were very interesting and well-maintained and the audio guide was great! I liked how interactive everything was. Definitely a must visit if you're in Bangkok. The entire museum can be explored within 1.5 to 2 hours on average. It wasn't crowded when we visited in the morning, even though it was a Saturday, so you don't have to buy tickets online and can just purchase them in person.

Last, I'd like to give a shout out to the friendly and helpful museum staff (receptionists, exhibit caretakers, janitors, etc.) as well!
If you are like us and was struggling to choose a sanctuary to have a tour, look no further than here.
The staff were incredible, we booked the half day tour. In the morning it was just me and my partner, it was really special. We then went out of their property and gathered some food for the elephants and planted some banana plants!
We learnt about the malpractice in the country, while it was depressing it’s beautiful to see the change that this family is making for these beautiful elephants.
Food for lunch was also really great, we rate this experience 5/5 no negative notes at all.
Thank you so much for having us
NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE.

Elephants look so sad and abused.

This place also still participates in riding which is outlawed and abandoned at most other places.

If you come here, you either don’t care about animal rights or are being an ignorant tourist.

Do your research and visit a sanctuary where you can still get a personal experience but also a positive and ethical one !
You're in Thailand and you want to visit or see Siem Reap's famous ancient temples but do not have time to travel far yet? Fear no more! Hidden (actually not really 😅) just hours away from Bangkok is Mueang Sing Historical Park in Sai Yok district of Kanchanaburi. Two temples of the once great Khmer Empire is protected here. These temples (ruins) are dated far back around 857 - 1157, a period when Khmer Kingdom was flourishing (ref:wikipedia). However, upon the start of the decline of the great kingdom, this place was unfortunately abandoned not until during Rama I's reign (from Thai history records) it became a military stronghold. Prasat Mueang Sing was originally a temple dedicated to Hindu god Shiva and its walls as a defense against western invasions.

This historical park measures approximately 736,000sqm so you have a good chance of walking exercise to comb the whole area. Ignoring the reality that you're just in Kanchanaburi, you could pretend that you've been transported to Siem Reap. Though not as overwhelming as the historical and amazing temples and ruins found in Siem Reap, this place has its own charm 🥰
It's a very interesting place. The ticket costs 100 baht. They also provide a free audio guide. It is clear that they tried to structure everything and make visiting the place memorable. I highly recommend it
They have two elderly elephants (48 and 57y) that were saved from logging activities. The tour starts in the lobby, continues with feeding the elephants (leaves), next you do a small tour of their park (you only see a small part). It ends with some cookies and drinks.

We only did the 1.5h tour since we travel with a toddler. She enjoyed it a lot as well. I'm not sure what value the full day tour would add, but they do get lunch when we had the cookies.

During the walk, you can walk between the elephants while feeding them bananas. They are very gentle, and walk with you as long as they get food. Once the bananas are finished, they go their own way to eat more grass/leaves in their park. At no point are they forced to do anything. There was no bathing when we were there although one of the guides showed us videos of another time.

Overall, it feels like the elephants have a chill life. Yes, they are very used to people, but they aren't forced to do anything.

Another extension of the history for Hellfire pass and river khwae bridge, the buddah was placed into the cave after the closure of the pow camp that Australian and Dutch were kept.
Love this historical place. They did best keeping thing there for us to visit. just not to long drive from Karnchanaburi city to this place. There is entrance fee and you can park you car in the place.

This cave is actually a place of worship
Seeking blessing and protection for workers during the building of this dangerous stretch of Railway track
Amazing place! Very well maintained and nice blend of nature and history
Animal cruelty. Avoid at all costs and visit an ethical elephant sanctuary if you want to see these beautiful creatures up close.
Amazing place, very nice and helpful staff. They told us a lot about elephant's history and we could feed them with bananas and other natural snacks. Staff treats the elephants with care and it seems like they really love what they're doing.
I was excited to visit this amazing place. I'm delighted with the exhibition. I didn’t have enough 2 hours for the excursion, so I’ll be back.
Each building has its own exhibition theme. Thanks for immersing yourself in the wonderful and interesting culture of Thailand. I was pleased to learn more about the history and culture of Thailand.
So quite and I feel comfort. I like it .
It is a wonderful place for both elephants and humans.
The owner, Lek is super friendly and kind. Also all of the staff are very nice here.
They take really good care of elephants. Our half day tour became a 1.5h tour, because of the weather and the conditions of elephants. It’s nice that they don’t force elephants to meet people.
I recommend to check the time table on their website. Since you will go a bit of walk with the elephants, there are time tables.
Horrific place where they ride elephants and chain them up as well as making them work. It is NOT ETHICAL. If you are seriously supporting these practices you need to have a genuine look at yourself and what you support. Disgusting.
The view is great, very educational. The place makes you feel both astonished and terrified.
DO NOT GO! This Elephant camp treats the elephants poorly. Chained up with chairs on their back, this is not how you treat these amazing creatures. This place needs shutting down.
What an amazing place! An actual sanctuary where they look after two female elephants (one saved from circus and the other from wood company). This was the experience I was hoping for - see happy elephants, well looked after, loved and free to walk around, no commands. I was very happy we could support this place by buying a ticket and to have an elephant experience that I don't have to be ashamed of :) there is no riding, no bathing (as I was told by our tour guide is bad for elephant feet!!). Please don't support places that offer bathing and come here :)
Thank you Khao Sok Sanctuary so much, we loved it!
We’ve met very nice people who dedicate their lives to something beautiful: giving some amazing animals the love and care they deserve and the life every elephant can wish for. Walking with the elephants and feeding them is a special experience!

A lot of concrete. Almost no shade, just a few benches.
No playground
Concrete, concrete and concrete. More greenery and shade please!
PLEASE AVOID. We booked a visit here through our hotel thinking it was the Elephant Sanctuary. This place is opposite of that. Immediately felt uncomfortable upon arrival, not due to the staff, but purely the environment and life of these elephants. Elephants always chained up when not put to work. Guides using sharp spear arrowheads on sticks to control the elephants. We left immediately. Please do yourself and the elephants a favor, avoid this place and others like it. It’s not worth some silly selfie if the elephants have a terrible life. You can check out the Elephant Conservation nearby where you help take care of the elephants by feeding and bathing them.

Small Cave but with historical purpose. Railway was built beside it. Indulge in the beautiful surroundings.
Please don’t encourage animals labour. They aren’t happy. Those poor animals should be free in nature, not doing tricks or being ride all day… if you love elephants do them a favor and leave them alone don’t visit place that use animal for the pleasure of the tourists. Please be mindful… make your research before participating in animals abuse.

A picturesque photo location, the cave is situated just beside the train tracks, only a two-minute walk from Krasae Cave train station where there is ample parking. The views of the train tracks and the Kwae Noi River are breathtaking. The train from Thonburi passes around 5:45 PM, offering the perfect opportunity for stunning photographs. The spot tends to be quite serene around that time, except for a number of very peaceful dogs. Additionally, it's an ideal place to watch the sunset.
It's a nice park with some interesting history. To do your own tour you can scan a QR code and listen to a video at YouTube for severalvisiting points. Small area for food, drinks and souvenirs. U can use the car, motorcycle, walk or ride the bike to visit the different places.
U can enjoy a great view at the river to take a rest.
Like always: too expensive for foreigners... everywhere the same

The quarry with the Buddha is adjacent to the railway where the vintage train still passes, sadly recalling the past . I recommend reading the sad story of the wonderful place
Great experience. Worth to visit. Will definitely come back again
Enjoyable to ride elephants, Chang. You walk and ride on top of Chang for about 5 minutes down and then back. Elephant is very powerful. They give elephants a water bath every so often. Most of ride is in the shade. You can give then bananas for 100 Bhat. Else they eat banana leaves on their break. They have hot coffee for your humans break at no charge. Bathrooms are very clean. Very close to road - watch the turn. Enjoy Chang!
A refreshing green space for walking, running, and workouts.
Quiet and not mean to be a tourist spot but a memorial park. A guy who introduced himself as Ken Sang takes care of the premises hold the keys to the meseum and the shrine house and keep them locked. He offered to open for us when we visit while he keep teeling his story.
An unforgettable experience at the Khaosok Elephant Sanctuary! In addition to interacting with the well-cared-for elephants, we had the opportunity to actively participate on the farm – we planted banana trees and enjoyed an informative farm tour. This aspect was particularly enriching and educational. The lunch was delicious, another highlight. A small note: The staff speaks limited English, but with a few questions, you can get all the information you need. Overall, a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to respectfully experience animals and nature.

Awesome historic cave used by the prisoners of war when building the Death Railway. Cool and dark out of the sun. It would have been a blessed relief during those sad times.
Feel more sorry for the elephants, very touristy and sad they were made to do tricks. Left feeling sad and wish the elephant could be left to do there natural environment. A tourist attraction that you shouldn't be able to visit

During our visit to Shinto Park's WW2 memorial gardens on a quiet weekday, we were pleasantly surprised by the well-maintained grounds. The groundskeeper kindly unlocked the museum for us, allowing us to leisurely explore. With free entry, this park is a worthwhile, quick stop if you're in the vicinity. A peaceful stroll around the garden and a peek inside the museum took us about 20-30 minutes.

Very peacefull place lot of people come here to relax and to exercise you can bring your children too a lot of space to play. And if you can bring some food for the fish, lots of hungry fish here. 🐟
Great example of late period Ayutthayan architecture though not in great condition.
Nice place to visit. No tourists. Some dogs might chase you though. 😁
Beautiful place! If you're taking yourself there like I did, try and go in the morning; by afternoon buses arrive with tourists doing day trips from bangkok and can the park can get a little busy compared to how quiet it was when I arrived

Wonderful place, very nice People working here and The baby elephant Experience was Great. Ty for this amazing trip
Very good camp. It has elephants, bamboo rafting and even turtles to take a foto with them.
Helaas erg jammer!
