Amazing museum! It has everything from history, prehistoric animals, bugs, movie screenings, war memorabilia etc. My favourite is taking someone new into the volcanic eruption simulation.
My advice is not to go during the weekends or school holidays because it gets packed with a lot of people and children.

Love my experience here, always bring my family here perfect for tourists plus getting to know the significance of the maori culture plus other pacific islands….also getting to know more about WW2 and warriors who sacrificed their lives for us which is emotional, really recommended if you want to know/learn more about Aotearoa
The best museum in Auckland! You can visit it for free if you are a resident (visit the website for more info).
The GF area is more about the Maori culture and the integration of Auckland with the culture itself. The 2nd floor is more about the history of World War II and the New Zealand's role on WWII.
The museum also provide more information by video using headphone and many interactive area such as informative-touch screen, real-time interactive camera etc.
Haven't visit the 1st floor but there is kids galleries on it.
The GF also has spacious atrium and restaurant for resting if you feel tired.
All staff were friendly and observant.

Had a great time with the kids over the weekend to see the Lego exhibit titled Relics : A new world rises. It's like a take of Lego master builders in old and forgotten icons of "my" time. A bit nostalgic going through some of the exhibits and even got to show my kids what TVs looked like before the flat panels they say these days. Grab the Relics hand out when you enter and try and do the challenges.
Beautifully displayed with a wide array of topics and broad history covered. Very enjoyable and I love that it's free for residents and for those of us that aren't, the price was very reasonable. Lucky to be able to add the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibit for only $9NZ
Was visiting as part of our cruise. Walked from the dock in Auckland. Beautiful and at times challenging walk. Arrived at museum to find international guests are required to pay to enter. Chose to walk around surroundings and gardens instead.
