At 31.000 square meters in size (almost 8 Acres) this is Turin's largest arcaded square (not the absolute largest, in spite of what many locals will tell you) and one of the most historical and charming. Situated at the end of Via Po, also an arcaded street, allows you the luxury of walking for hours in a rainy day without getting wet. The architecture of the palaces dates back to the early 1800s and it was commissioned to celebrate the return of the king Victor Emmanuel I of Sardinia (hence the name by which the locals call it, even if technically it takes its name after he Battle of Vittorio Veneto in 1918) after Napoleon's retreat on May 20th 1814. The square is a classic meeting point for the people of Turin and an underground car park (paid) makes it also convenient to reach it by car (except in the weekends at night when it fills very quickly). Many lines of public transport, both in the form of busses and trams also reach the square. From the square you get great views of the medieval royal palace at the other end of Via Po on one side, and on the other side of the river Po, the church of Gran Madre di Dio (Great Mother of God) and the hills surrounding the city.

Massive grand piazza in the middle of Turin. One of the main sights of the city so make sure not to miss! Close to other attractions and landmarks, nice architecture and plenty of cafes and restaurants, most with outdoor seating, perfect for a quick coffee or bite to eat.
