Awesome art museum, great for rainy days! Really enjoyed how they laid everything out, contrasting both classical and modern art.

The current temporary exhibit is incredible - fantastic setup.

Can probably get through everything if you’re going fast in about 2 hours.

Gothenburg Museum of Art punches above its weight (city size) in many ways. It has a strong collection of highly-respected and popular artists (Monet, Gauguin, Picasso, Munch, etc). Some are variations I hadn't seen elsewhere, such as Gothenburg's variation from Monet's series on water lilies. This gallery also has one of the earliest versions of Munch's Vampyren (1893).

This gallery also fed my need to view works of artists who are new to me. One is Metzinger's Two Women (or Two Nudes). I was also struck by how Helmer Osslund's Autumn Evening (1924) and Henrik Sorenen's Midsummer in Telemarken (1917) apply styles akin to Canada's Group of Seven who painted around the same time.

The regular collection was more than expected, but the gallery provided further delight with a special exhibition of Ilon Wikland. Neither I nor my partner knew anything about her (sorry!) until now, but became fully absorbed by her style and life experiences. Wikland's images truly capture fairy tales.

Amazing art museum, I really appreciated the artworks there! I enjoyed looking at the meticulous details of the paintings, especially when the museum isn't super crowded so you get to enjoy the works in peace!

Spread across about 6 floors. Top floor is my favourite the more modern Swedish and Scandinavian collection. Also has some nice French Impressionism works and a great Van Gogh too and an interesting video on the research that has been done on how it was painted.

Nice shop. Got there at 11am when it opened no real queue.

Students are given free entry upon showing ID card. You are given a museum map as well which can be helpful. You will have to leave your bag in a locker.
For best experience try starting from the top floor and work your way to the bottom floor. I added a few of my favorite arts from there

Enjoyed my visit exploring Swedish and European art. I spent most my time in the Picasso Acrobat Family exhibit featuring his work from the Rose Period and the provenance, research and restoration of the painting on cardboard and preservation need via 3 educational videos. Then I walked into a room showing the results of a Van Gogh study of several trees paintings. I’m not a fan of tie Modern Art displayed but art is art. 0 floor has a gallery style showing and more Götenburg artist features. A must see Museum.

Beautiful space with a wonderful and diverse world of art inside. I happen to arrive in the city on free museum day which, of course, added to the greatness of the experience. I would definitely return and it's worth paying for. It was wildly busy when I was there but you still have space to view and discuss the artwork. You didn't feel rushed or too crowded.
