The Horniman Museum and Gardens, located in the heart of Forest Hill, London, is a hidden gem that offers a diverse range of exhibits, gardens, and activities for visitors of all ages. Its unique blend of anthropology, natural history, and musical instruments makes it a delightful destination for those seeking a cultural experience that's both educational and entertaining.
The natural history section features a stunning array of fossils, animal specimens, and a mesmerizing aquarium that showcases a diverse range of aquatic life. The museum's emphasis on education and interactivity is evident through its hands-on exhibits, which engage children and adults alike. This focus on interactivity extends to the musical instruments gallery, where visitors can explore instruments from around the world and even play some of them.

The gardens surrounding the museum are a highlight in their own right. With beautifully landscaped areas, a butterfly house, and even a small animal enclosure, they offer a tranquil escape from the city. The gardens are perfect for a leisurely stroll or a family picnic, and they often host events and workshops that cater to all ages.the Horniman Museum and Gardens is a must-visit destination for anyone in London. Its eclectic exhibits, beautiful gardens, and family-friendly atmosphere make it a unique and enriching experience.

A really wonderful experience. Displays are clear and all well laid out.
Sad that the Natural History exhibition was closed but it was wonderful in the World Experience and Dinosaur Areas.
Never been before and should have! Great history too.

Me and my wife have visited the place and it was amazing experience. The gardens have different flowers and plants a small zoo having cutest little rabbits and ships. A small aquarium and Amazon forest display with tons of knowledge about different animals, corals and fishes. Museum has different displays in a year and has been awarded best museum in London. Every Sunday there is local produce market takes place where you can find fresh farm produce. Stunning views of London city from gardens is just candy to eye.

A cabinet of curiosities. The museum itself is the wonders of the world through the collection of someone who scours the world to experience the different sights and cultures. (A lot of them stolen definitely).

It was already closing time, so I couldn’t check out the dinosaur exhibition, the butterfly house, or the aquarium, which I heard were amazing.

The natural history section is under renovation so will have to return someday here.

The gardens are beautifully filled with trees and flowers with a lovely atmosphere brought about by the Sunday market. There are also animal enclosures.

I foresee the place as exciting for families. Even me and my friend, we were tickled pink.

An absolute gem! The main museum and gardens are free - the butterfly enclosure, aquarium and additional exhibitions are a small cost (which add up if you do them all). Plenty to look at for free though if you're on a budget and fancy a day out.
The butterfly enclosure is actually magical, you'll feel like a Disney princess (yes, even you Dave).
A wonderful world culture collection full of interesting artifacts and information.
Also a huge collection of musical instruments from different places and times in history.
Hands on educational things for the small ones todo and the museum is not so huge as to be completely overwhelming!
The gardens are beautiful and there is an animal walk with rabbits, sheep and alpacas which is free to walk through.
The shop is full of things to spend your money on and the staff /volunteers were absolutely lovely at every encounter.
Parking available at a small cost behind sainsburys, it is an uphill walk from there so be prepared for that. The museum is also accessible by public transport.
Overall, an old favourite and lovely day out to fit any budget and all ages.

Fantastic family day out. You can do as little or as much as you'd like and much of it is free so an inexpensive day in all. The cafe is great and has something fir everyone but again you could take a pack up and sit in the gardens for lunch.

This was a fun day out. While the famous natural history room is out of action until 2026, the museum still offers plenty of things to see and do. The butterfly house and aquarium are paid entry (around £6, and are absolutely worth the extra cost), but the rest of the museum is free. I would recommend a visit on a sunny day so you can stroll around the gardens.
