Only 3 stars because of the crowd! It's a really beautiful castle we have to admit it but during high season, the tourists are very numerous which kinda ruins the experience there. I didn't visit the castle but the park was pretty. It's well indicated and not too far from the palace

Great view! Just arrange your trip ahead, and if you don't buy your tickets online before, you might end up getting available time to visit inside the castle so late that like us decide to not do it! Visiting outside of the castle is always possible. I took a star because I expected such a place to have a much better restaurant. At least they should have French fries or Margarita... That children eat easily. But unfortunately Not!
Enjoyed a stroll in the gardens. It is not really big but a lovely place to sit in and enjoy nature. A cafe inside would be good
What a magical place! Feels like a fantasy. Would really recommend coming here for a quiet and relaxed visiting experience over the other sights in the Sintra area! Be sure to book tickets in advance and either take a taxi or Uber there from Sintra as it is quite far out.
Amazing palace. Unfortunately we had to wait over 3 hrs after we bought our tickets. On top comes the waiting time until the purchase of the tickets. Very good is the support of handycaped people like me. The entrance fee was drastically reduced. Thank you!
The National Palace of Pena in Sintra is an absolute must-visit! The palace looks like something out of a fairy tale with its colorful towers and eclectic architecture. The views from the palace are breathtaking, offering stunning panoramas of the surrounding hills and forests. The interior is equally impressive, filled with beautifully decorated rooms and rich history.

Be prepared for some crowds, as it’s a popular spot, but the experience is worth it. The gardens are expansive and lovely to explore, offering a peaceful contrast to the bustling palace. It’s a bit of a hike to get there, but you can also take a shuttle if you prefer.

I recently visited the National Palace of Pena in Sintra, Portugal, and while the beauty and unique architecture of the palace left me in awe, there were some aspects of my visit that left a lot to be desired.

First and foremost, I must emphasize that the National Palace of Pena is truly a sight to behold. The architecture of the palace is a captivating blend of Romanticism and Moorish influences, creating a visual extravaganza unlike anything I've ever seen before. The vibrant colors, intricate detailing, and whimsical designs make it a true architectural gem. The palace stands proudly on top of a hill, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, adding to its overall charm.

However, as much as I appreciated the beauty of the palace, I couldn't help but feel frustrated by the way the place was managed. The main issue was the long queues and waiting times for each and every part of the palace. It felt excessive and, at times, it dampened the overall experience. Having to wait in line for every room and section of the palace became tiresome and somewhat disheartening.

While I understand the need for crowd management and the preservation of the palace's integrity, I believe there could be more efficient ways to handle the flow of visitors. Perhaps implementing a timed entry system or providing more information about peak visiting hours could help alleviate the long queues and enhance the overall visitor experience.

Despite this issue, I must commend the staff for their professionalism and willingness to assist. They were knowledgeable and provided helpful information about the history and significance of the palace. Their dedication to preserving the heritage of the National Palace of Pena was evident, and their passion added value to the visit.

In conclusion, the National Palace of Pena is undeniably a visually stunning attraction with its unique blend of architectural styles. From the intricate detailing to the vibrant colors, it's a feast for the eyes. However, the long queues and waiting times for each section of the palace detracted from the overall experience. With some improvements in crowd management, this enchanting palace could truly become an even more memorable destination for visitors.
Magnificent old castle from the 10th century, with an absolutely stunning view of the landscape!

With this palace you have the option to visit just the gardens (without a time slot) and gardens + interior (the second one with a time slot).
We took the 24hs unlimited hop on/hop off bus and got off at the entrance of the palace. There’s a shuttle available that will drive you up and down for 3 euros. Otherwise you can go up on foot (20-30min each way).
Once you are up there, the gardens and palace surroundings are really easy to explore. There’s quite a lot of people at all times so be prepared for that!
The palace is beautiful with so many colours and details. It’s amazing to look at it and think of how much time and effort must have been put into building it.
The views from the castle are also amazing!
We didn’t visit the inside as apparently it’s just the preserved rooms showing the richness and the way the lived, which we were not so interest in (plus the only available time slot was 5pm and we wanted to visit the palace in the morning).
Buying tickets with time is essential!
I think palace of Lena is a must see of Portugal. We loved it
Quiet spot in Monsanto, with a view and fresh air. Worth a go in summer ⛱️

Our gps gave us wrong instructions as to the garden's entrance. We were led to a parking lot at the back of the garden which was a dead end.
Not a very impressive one, nevertheless it was quite serene in the afternoon. Would be lovely to just spend some time reading -as many people did-but the noise from a nearby construction site wasn't pleasant.

Pena Palace was so beautiful. It is stuffed with the most fantastic collection of treasures. The royal apartments are well worth a visit. Our tour guide took us via the gardens which a lot of people miss out but they were really lovely and the Queens view point gives a great glimpse of Pena Palace before you venture inside. It was busy but entry inside is controlled so it was quieter and you could have a good look at everything. Pena Palace is a must when in Portugal.
The park is very large and nice. The palace is overrated (no furniture as the owner sold all). The good thing is no queue and free parking across entrance (end of June). Steep paths to the palace and garden (a shuttle inside did not operate).
Wow, probably the most beautiful castle we have visited. The outside is definitely worth the little day trip and you can get lost for hours in the incredible gardens. I would definitely recommend to go early, our entry was at 10 am and we bought the tickets the week before and it made the process super easy. You don't spend more than 30/45 minutes and that's perfect, you'll want to spend your time in the garden and visit other sites close by.
It is an easy drive through place.
Couldn't get there very easily. Google gave us the wrong directions whiles hiking there. Eventually we found a different route. But it wasn't really worth the visit. It was quite boring. Not much to see there. The hike was cool. We saw a 🐍 snake. But I got very tired.
Nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of Lisbon, the Jardim Botânico de Lisboa is a stunning sanctuary that feels like a hidden paradise. Our first visit was in October of 2023 and we were transported into a world of serene autumn beauty. The pathways wound gracefully through towering trees, curated international plant collections and intriguing water features, with each turn of the garden’s masterful layout revealing a delightful vista for reflection.
What sets this botanical garden apart are the artisan sculptures, ranging from whimsical to profound, that are thoughtfully integrated throughout the grounds, enhancing the overall experience. Each piece is an exquisite work of art, crafted by talented local artists Sylvain and Tara Bongard, of Studio Bongard in Monchique. They have successfully captured the essence of the natural world in their creations, which harmonize with the lush greenery to create an enchanting fusion of nature and art.
We learned that the Lisbon Botanical Garden is classified as a national monument and also includes a unique butterfly greenhouse. It is definitely a place where one can find peace, inspiration, and beauty in abundance. Whether you are a plant enthusiast, an art lover, or simply seeking a relaxing retreat, this living gallery will serve as rejuvenation for the soul.
A charming place to take a quick dry picnic and a lovely place to enjoy the sunset with some chilled beer 🍻🍻
An oasis inside the city center of Lisbon. A place where people fo for just a walk, to hang out, to study in the open air, to read a book, enjoy the sounds of many birds, beautiful plants. Some paths are wheelchair friendly, but others are absolutely not. This is due to the elevation differences. Some of the few old buildings overlooking the park are abandoned, with broken windows. This is Portugal; in other countries, they would demolish them. Luckily, they want to preserve them and wait for sufficient funds, perhaps. It doesn't take away from enjoying this park. Actually, it adds a bit of romantic mystery.

Nice but could do with a bit more investment. I’d say you can easily cover all in 20 minutes, some statues felt a bit outdated. I wouldn’t say there are many specific points of attraction a lot of it felt the same but the bridge over the pond was a really nice spot for photos. The ticket were very affordable.
The palace is a unique blend of Gothic, Indian, and Moorish motifs, making it an architectural gem. Its design reflects a harmonious integration of different cultural influences, which is rare and fascinating.

Each archway and window tells a story, each mosaic and carving holds a dream of its creator, Sir Francis Cook. The attention to detail is impeccable, with the Islamic influences paying homage to the region’s rich history.
I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS GARDEN, IT WAS SO PEACEFUL! It had lot's of different types of trees and plants from all over the world and had really cool art pieces around as you walk, there are benches and lots of spaces to sit down and just take in the scenery, I will definitely be back for the serenity I felt here
Definitely not the best spot, at least not anymore due to grown trees (which should remain!). However, makes for great spot for a family/group picnic area. Sufficient open space, coverage in case of rain or needing shade from the sun, and is located within the recreational park so has washrooms, restaurants and activities.
As with the other castle nearby this was a pain to drive to. We enjoyed this area better as it was much less busy and some older history found around the buildings. Some amazing views and a neat walk along the walls. Bathrooms were easy to find but not always stocked well. Look for a resident Cat. Weather changes fast, we were soaked at the very top but came prepared and enjoyed the experience
Tour is worth is, great view of Pena Palace, more rustic than the other tourist locations
Quiet oasis in the middle of bustling city. It is compact enough to check major paths in 1-2 hours. Lots of tropical and desert kind of plants, quite affordable to visit.
👍15% discount if buy ticket online 3 day prior.
😊 Wear sunblock is a must. We got a severe sunburn afterwards.
High recommend a visit to this Moorish castle. Able to walk along the old walls and gain great views of the surrounding area. Book tickets in advance.

Amazing views of the Tagus and 25th of April Bridge. A shame the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building facade is sits behind is in bad need of a face lift and/or at least a paint job, but the views are unbeatable.
Not a good view compared to others around. The park where it is inserted has been used for a long time to host kids birthday parties, if you visit you understand why
The second must have in sintra. The colorfull palace is more aviable to everyone. Here you can get more private especially if you cath the fog.

We have entered the area at 15:00 and stayed there for 2 hours.

We got the fog, we got the view and the history. It is hard not to get in love with this place.

See the photos, go into the castle and come back by the longest walk down the hill.

The trees smels amazing, and you can only feel that by going down on your foot not by using "tuktuk to go down"

Immer wieder gern
lovely place where tourist won't get to
