I liked it a lot despite two negative issues.
The first negative thing is that, according to our tour guide, it was built during the military rule in Portugal as a probaganda tool. The second is that it put a sword together with a cross. These two should never be together again.
However, the piece of art is magnificant as it summarizes the Portuguese contribution to the European discoveries, each person is portrait with his contribution. Make sure to have a guide (booklet, online, or a person) to explain it
You must see this while visiting Belém in Portugal. It is really beautiful. Just very crowded in the summer because of all the tourists that want to take pictures. We were there on the 10th of July 2024. And there was really too much people. There was too much wait time to visit inside, so we didn't get to see anything.
Went to visit the Belem Tower and happened to give this amazing monument a chance, and it was the best thing that could happen, because it was probably one of the most incredible and unexpected (not in plan) cultural experiences I had in Lisbon. Unique and wonderful views, and in my visit had a exhibition with a lot of really nice historical materials.
The Monument to the Discoveries in Belém is a must-see! This impressive monument honors Portugal's great explorers and stands proudly by the Tagus River. The detailed sculptures and rich history make it a fascinating spot. It can get crowded, but it's definitely worth it for the historical significance.
It's a really beautiful park and there is a really nice view from the top. If you want to have fresh air just walk the path full of trees. It's very calm park, we liked it.
I liked very much it's very cool to lay down on the grass in very hot summer days enjoying the shade of the trees. It's very convenient to reach, metro or bus, it's clean and nobody is bothering you.
Gorgeous park. The photos in reviews do not show the breadth of what’s available. Apart from play areas and a lake, there is a cafe, restaurant and bar with different Gins and ice creams on offer.
A few Peacocks roaming too!
Amazing views of the city from here. Was free entry with the Lisboa Card and afforded much better views than the nearby Belem Tower. Definitely worth a visit!
Skip the more conventional Belem Tower, and instead visit the roof top of Monument to the Discoveries to get better views over the ocean and towards the Jeronimos Monastery in Belem. Also quite cool to see the map of the Portuguese expansion etched into the ground in front and the sculpture of the explorers on the sides. It was quite empty when we went there in the evening, so you can just walk in, buy tickets and take the elevator to the top for the views. Your whole visit should not take more than 30 minutes, even though the views from the top are quite enjoyable.
An incredibly beautiful and interesting monument. You need to have a guide or at least have a guide book to tell you about it. Very interesting and beautiful sculpted. The map of the world in front of the monument is also very interesting but needs explaining. Our guide for the day was so imformative and would highly recommend a quided tour of the city.
The beautiful grand park that connects Marquês de Pombal, Parque, and São Sebastião metro stations is a place my husband and I often visit to walk our dog and have picnics with friends. It's a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sunset.
Another remarkable church of Porto. There was also small market with homemade sweets.

Pretty church poised on a slight hill with steps leading up to it.
Vivid blue while and yellow tiles make for a pretty front.
Didn't go in, although only €1...
Very very nice and Amazing Place
A gift to the Lisbon city. We visited this park 2 evenings where we could see and meet people enjoying their lives with family, kids, lovers and friends, with dogs, and dogs each other. The ocean view from the upper part is great.
The Museu Romântico in Porto, located in the picturesque Quinta da Macieirinha, is a delightful escape into the elegance and charm of the 19th century. This museum, dedicated to the Romantic period, offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the lifestyle, art, and culture of Porto during this enchanting era.

Nestled in the lush gardens of the Crystal Palace Gardens, the museum's location itself is a tranquil oasis that sets the perfect scene for a historical journey. As you approach the beautifully restored mansion, you’re immediately transported to a time when Porto was a hub of romanticism, where art, music, and literature flourished.

The museum’s interior is a meticulously recreated representation of a 19th-century aristocratic home. Each room is adorned with period-appropriate furniture, artworks, and decorative objects that provide a vivid glimpse into the domestic life of the Portuguese elite during the Romantic era. The attention to detail is impressive, from the intricately carved woodwork and elegant chandeliers to the delicate porcelain and rich fabrics that decorate the rooms.

One of the museum's highlights is the grand salon, a beautifully furnished room that often served as the social heart of the home. Here, visitors can almost hear the echoes of past gatherings, with conversations about poetry and music filling the air. The salon’s opulent decor, complete with gilded mirrors and plush seating, exemplifies the luxurious lifestyle of the time.

Another fascinating aspect of the Museu Romântico is its collection of personal items and artifacts that belonged to notable figures of the Romantic period. These items, ranging from clothing and jewelry to personal letters and manuscripts, offer an intimate look at the lives of the people who shaped this cultural movement. The portraits and photographs displayed throughout the museum further enrich this personal connection to history.

The museum also features temporary exhibitions that delve deeper into specific aspects of the Romantic era, such as fashion, literature, and music. These rotating exhibits keep the museum’s offerings fresh and provide new insights into the period with each visit.

One of the unique experiences at the Museu Romântico is the opportunity to enjoy live performances of 19th-century music. Periodic concerts featuring classical compositions by Romantic composers are held in the museum, adding an auditory dimension to the immersive experience. These performances are a wonderful way to connect with the cultural heritage of the era.

The gardens surrounding the museum are a serene complement to the indoor exhibits. Visitors are encouraged to take a leisurely stroll through the manicured lawns and flowerbeds, enjoying the tranquil environment and stunning views over the Douro River. The gardens provide a perfect spot for reflection and relaxation after exploring the museum.

The museum’s gift shop offers a selection of themed souvenirs, books, and replicas that allow visitors to take a piece of the Romantic era home with them. Additionally, the on-site café provides a charming setting for enjoying a coffee or light snack while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

In conclusion, the Museu Romântico is a captivating destination that offers a richly immersive experience into Porto’s 19th-century Romantic period. With its meticulously curated rooms, fascinating personal artifacts, and beautiful gardens, the museum provides a comprehensive and engaging look at this influential era. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a lover of art and culture, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, the Museu Romântico is a must-visit destination in Porto.
Beautiful park! It's very big, clean and has many spots to sit down in calm alone or with company. Definitely worth a visit!
Sad to see this (before) well maintained park into a dog playground. Didn’t see a single owner of dogs to collect the poop of his animal. Not to mention most of the owners were unable to call their dogs and in the end had to run after them to catch them. The view from the observation deck is nice, however, the garden is not taken care of as it was before - when you approach it closer you see that the bushes haven’t been trimmed for some time. As long this is a free attraction I guess it will be catering for the dogs and their owners. Pity. Don’t you dare letting a child running between the bushes - this is a dog dedicated area.
Amazing monument with intricate sculptures on each side. I would recommend taking the trip to the top as the views are amazing (entrance is included if you purchase the Lisboa Card).

The surrounding area is also gorgeous and wasn’t too busy.

Mein absoluter Lieblingspark in Lissabon.
This museum is free entry with the Porto card. I highly recommend getting the porto card for your time here.

The museum itself, was an enjoyable and quick visit displaying art and artifacts from the romance period.
Chama atenção o Órgão antigo e a escultura do Cristo Crucificado
This park has the most stunning views of the city and water...there is a cafe there and a park for kids to play and a wonderful walking path throughout the whole park..it's a must see...it is also where the hop on hop off buses start from for their tours

Interesting museum with a lot of paintings and objects from the era. It has a nice park/garden next to it where you can find peace and beautiful views while surrounded with nature.

Very disappointing experience unfortunately. We managed to make it in 25 min (not 1:15 like stated on Fever). Perhaps for families with children it might be a nice experience.there was not much entertaining and special and I am surprised why it has so many positive feedbacks actually.
Very nicely organized and planned. The figures are brilliantly made.

Unmissable view at Caniço. Great place to sit and relax and have a chill.
A number of tourist hotels along this stretch of dramatic, volcanic coast. Beach is mostly large rocks though a nearby diving school and windsurfers use it. Footpath/promenade without shops or bars runs for about a mile. Small shops, bars and restaurants back from the seafront. Larger shops in Canico can be reached on foot but, due to the very steep hill, it is worth the €1.30 bus ride.
Mooi park, zeker even bekijken als je toc in Belem
If you are in the area this is a nice place to stop. Watch out though, we got attacked by birds

Exotic mixture of flora from around the subtropical & tropical world
Prachtig park.
