Amazing plaza where you can enjoy a glass of wine and beer with locals. The neighborhood is beautiful and full of small palaces. A lot of history around. Stunning sunset view from Lisbon without the tourist crowds.

Pretty views of the city. But be prepared to climb a lot of stairs to get to them.
Unfortunately the excavation site was closed when I went. Also, resident peacocks were also a lot of fun.

Arrived early with the Lisbon Card to avoid long lines. Saw people with advance tickets skip it entirely.
Magical at sunset, but equally amazing all throughout the day. Very different crowds if you visit during the day vs. sunset. During the day you will see tons of tuk tuks and guides bringing small groups up there for the amazing views and photos. Party vibe plus the magic of the sun going down over Lisbon at sunset!

Summary - the castle is good but it's really about the amazing views you get over Lisbon from the area outside of the castle. They are truly amazing and worth the entry fee on its own.

There is an interesting (ish) museum too and the castle is standing but there is nothing inside. Oh and there is the obligatory expensive cafe.

Just be careful is you have a Lisbon card. Kids that are 14 and over have the pay even if they have the card so it's a bit of a waste having it. To be honest we had this a few times so I am not sure that the Lisbon card is worth it unless you really really hit the museums.
Summary - amazing view point with stunning views of Lisbon. That's it's. Nothing more.

Oh. It's a long way up. Get the tram or one of the many guided tour tuktuk things.
Beautiful palace with impressive park and caves, we were short in time and spent there around 1h but that was pretty enough (didn’t go inside the main castle though). There is a line by the entrance so buy tickets online. Another line is to see the Initiation Well - it moves very fast, but note that you won’t have time to stay inside, park guards are making sure the crowd flows non-stop.
A beautiful stop when visiting Sintra. Make sure to line up for the initiation well. The gardens are stunning. Allow for 2.5-3 hours to completely experience everything . The cafe restaurant is very good
Had a lovely outing with the family (myself, my husband and my 6 year old daughter) and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience! I loved how they had steps available to carry around so my daughter could see into the higher tanks! And finished off the visit with a coffee and snack at the cafeteria.

A big castle worth the visit.

Climbing up the castle's hill can be hectic with steep hills and traffic. Once you pay the admission price, which is reasonable for European castles, you'll be rewarded with scenic plazas shaded by old pines. It's a reprieve from the heat and tourist hubbub below. The inside is quite different from the outside. There's a kiosk cafe and restaurant with great views onto Lisbon. And of course the castle's walls are fully walkable, which a treat.
This is the most surreal, lush, gorgeous place ever!!! So many nooks to walk through is the most beautiful forest terrain. I really can't think of a more beautiful castle with these grounds in recent memory. Plan to spend a few hours just to walk these breathtaking pathways. Don't pass up the well either. The line looks crazy long and we waited 25 minutes for one of the coolest descents ever. Love love love this place!
I recently had the privilege of visiting Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, Portugal, and I am still in awe of the breathtaking natural beauty that awaits you there. This enchanting estate is truly a hidden gem nestled amidst the lush greenery of Sintra's landscape.
Upon entering Quinta da Regaleira, I was immediately transported into a fairytale-like setting. The sprawling gardens, adorned with exotic plants, towering trees, and whimsical pathways, create an atmosphere of wonder and exploration. It felt like stepping into a magical realm, where every corner held a delightful surprise.
However, I must admit that the place is like a maze, and it's easy to get confused and lost amidst the enchanting surroundings. I highly recommend taking the time to study the map and familiarize yourself with the layout before embarking on your adventure. Trust me, it will save you some wandering and ensure that you don't miss any of the hidden treasures within the estate.
As I meandered through the grounds, I discovered a multitude of captivating features. From the ornate fountains and cascading waterfalls to the mystical grottoes and hidden tunnels, each element of Quinta da Regaleira showcases intricate craftsmanship and a deep appreciation for nature's beauty. It felt like stepping into a living work of art.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Initiation Well, an architectural marvel that descends deep into the ground. This well, also known as the "Inverted Tower," is not only a stunning sight but also holds fascinating ties to the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar, a medieval Christian military order, is believed to have had a presence in Sintra, and it is said that the Initiation Well was used for secretive initiation rituals.
As I descended the spiral staircase of the Initiation Well, I couldn't help but feel a sense of intrigue and mystery. It's as if the well holds secrets and stories from centuries past, waiting to be unraveled. The intricate symbolism and design of the well, with its nine platforms and spiral staircase, are believed to represent the nine circles of Hell from Dante's Inferno. It is a testament to the rich history and mysticism associated with the Knights Templar.
The view from the bottom of the Initiation Well is simply awe-inspiring and offers a unique perspective on the estate. Looking up, surrounded by the damp stone walls, I couldn't help but imagine the ancient ceremonies that were once held in this very spot. It's a glimpse into a world shrouded in legend and mystery.
Throughout my visit, I was struck by the preservation and care taken to maintain the historical integrity of Quinta da Regaleira. The attention to detail, from the restoration of the grand palace to the meticulous upkeep of the gardens, is truly commendable. It's evident that the estate holds immense cultural and historical significance, and I am grateful for the opportunity to experience it firsthand.
In conclusion, Quinta da Regaleira is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking to be immersed in the beauty of nature, captivated by the allure of history, and intrigued by the connections to the Knights Templar. While it may be a bit confusing to navigate at times, the effort is well worth it. So take your time, study the map, and let the magic of this extraordinary place unfold before your eyes. It's a journey you won't soon forget.

It's a pity that we didn't do our homework. Today's weather is not suitable for visiting. The air is filled with moisture and cold fog, which makes many tourists wet. So raincoats and waterproof jackets are very necessary.
Half of the aquarium was closed due to renovation.
This is genuinely one of the most incredible places I’ve visited. For 12 euros you get access to the main building which is a is a work of art and the surrounding grounds, initiation well, the grotto and waterfall make. this is a genuinely unmissable stop on a trip to Sintra.

You will most likely have a bit of a wait to get into the initiation well but it is ‘well’ worth the wait…… other than that i honestly have nothing negative to say.

This park is so pretty. I highly recommend you walk through this on your way to the palace.
Such a beautiful day out. Very affordable for young travellers <26. Was brilliant to walk around the castle and see the city from above.
Its quite a climb to get there and whilst inside its rather uneven - make sure you wear comfortable shoes and watch your step!
Nice city view. Recommend to visit.
From this place you can hear the planes. And watch them from distance. There is few benches right there , very appreciate it cause I was tired a little bit.
Also some temporary lemonade place was right there. I’m not sure is it always work or not.
10 euros for 65 plus, and a little bit more for adults for entrance. Families discounts present to enter. Great place to enter and explore the heady days of Sintra and the royal elite. Ceilings with Swans and another with magpies are the highlights..for me. Gardens for prince's are exquisite and the koi carp pond too. Still involved a lot of steps up and down...Kitchen also incredible!
Excellent place to roam around, very relaxing.
Beautiful place! You feel like in some kind of fairytale. The nature around and the architecture are stunning. It’s also very comfortable that there is a bus station not far from it, in case you don’t want to use the taxi.

It's worth visiting São Jorge Castle just before it closes when there are no more crowds. We arrived around 7:30 PM, and, having the Lisbon Card, we entered immediately (there is a separate line for cardholders). There were only a handful of people on the castle grounds. The views are stunning, and it's really worth walking along the walls of this majestic castle. It's true that there is a lack of information about the castle's history and the functions of its various elements. We noticed only one general information board, briefly describing different parts of the castle.
Beautiful historical palace in the center of Sintra. It was not crowded on a Monday morning, so we were able to take our time following the visit path. We enjoyed the signs explaining each room and loved looking at the different old tiles and furniture. They had a small bit of gardens that you could access without buying a ticket, but they weren’t anything special. We spent about an hour and a half here moving at a relatively slow pace.
The initiation well is a popular Instagram spot, but this place has so much more! The well had a line to get in, but it was probably only about a 15 minute wait. The rest of the gardens had several structures, fountains, a cave grotto, and beautiful plants. The mansion had nicely decorated rooms and information signs explaining the history of the place. We spent two and a half hours here moving at a relatively slow pace, and still didn’t even see the top corner of the gardens. They also have bathrooms and a cafe for anyone interested.
Amazing view point 🤩 where you can oversee entire Lisboa and surroundings. Definitely worth the ride up. We took a tuk tuk 👍 which is highly recommended as the streets are very steep and tight. You don’t want to go up by car and have to dodge any car 🚘. The view however is worth any manoeuvres 😅🚀🚀🚀
The palace is beautiful! The audio guide is really useful and it is very cheap to buy it. The swan room is beautiful! Throughout the palace the tiles are so beautiful.
The garden is very small.
When visting the palace look through the windows to see the Mouro’s castle on top of the mountain.

Such a wonderful experience. The view really made my day. The garden is really nice. I loved the animal barn too
Very interesting stuff, well organized and explained. Seems to be well maintained, given its age. We couldn't see everything because half of the exhibition was closed. They charged only half of the normal admission price due to this, which was fair.
I went there with friends and it was amazing, I've never been there and since I arrived there I fell in love. Stunning view! ✨
One of the best view points over Lisbon (and there are many!). You get great views of all sides and all the important landmarks of Lisbon. Particularly good to visit during golden hour to see the red roofs on top of the city lit up. The atmosphere in this place is also quite lively with street artists and a vibrant crowd. Its easily reachable via the iconic Tram 28 of Lisbon, but be aware though, that it's quite a steep climb up.
We visited with an organized tour with a local guide and had a great time. The two bathrooms are super smelly and lacked attention. I would avoid using them if you can wait. Great views of surrounding town.
Worth visiting. No admission fee.
One of the best views in Lisbon. The views from here are spectacular. It was absolutely worth climbing all the steps and seeing the views from the top. Many people gather to see the beautiful sunsets every day. There's a coffee shop nearby where you can buy some snacks and drinks while enjoying the sunset .

A picture perfect place to relax and enjoy the views. Need a place to sit? No problem, there are seats everywhere and the grass if you need to ground yourself!

Castelo de São Jorge is a very impressive medieval castle. The castle has so many intricate levels to investigate and explore. There’s also plenty of towers to climb that provide great views of Lisbon. The castle is heavily fortified and located on top of a hill. I was surprised to see a few peacocks roaming around. Since it is over 1,000 years old and rich with history, there’s a nice archeological museum with plenty of pottery found from digs. I do wish there were more signs throughout the castle telling me what I’m looking at and the history behind it. Regardless, Castelo de São Jorge is a staple of Lisbon and something I highly recommend visiting.
Gorgeous, neo-classic Portuguese cathedral with open cloisters and carvings. Pop in for a serene visit, just exquisite. Free entrance.
Het grote plein en de basiliek doen me denken aan het Sint Pietersplein in Rome. De plaats van stilte bezocht en een kaars aangestoken. War zeker ook de moeite waard is, is de nieuwe kerk aan de andere kant van het plein
Small but very good aquarium in Lisbon. Loving under the shadow of Oceania. Close to the Belem Palace and tower.

My husband took his autistic son, they entered free of charge. Disabled people and carers enter for free.

The park itself is worth a visit but a bit overvalued for what it offers. The scenery is very nice and the surrounding is amazing. But signage can be improved.
A lovely castle surrounded by green park and nice birds.

I’d recommend buying a ticket before you arrive so you can skip the ticket line and simply go to the barriers.

Be careful not to slip if you decide to go up to the castle wall. The stairs are quite unsteady, so you may wish to explore it from below if you are unsure.
Sintra National Palace is a must visit in the city of Sintra. It carries so much history and the interiors are absolutely amazing to walk through. Do get a guide or an audio guide as there’s tons of things to learn about.
Dit is ook heel erg groot maar vin het niks spannend
Average castle with stunning views. Decent cafe and plenty of toilets. (That’s important to some).

Only 3 stars because the camera obscurer wasn’t open, and the lack of information boards to help you learn the history.

The cost was €15.00 to get in but you can be there a good few hours. Not great for wheelchairs so be prepared to walk and climb lots of steps.

TIP: the queue to get in can be huge so buy your tickets online and skip straight to the front with your eticket.

Tip 2 - the walk to the castle was more fun than the castle itself. Lots of cute shops and streets. Enjoy the journey up!!

The castle itself (the keep) didn’t really have much to look at. There aren’t any buildings to explore other than the sentry towers.

I’m glad i visited and would recommend it.
I visited this Palace in Dec of 2016 and foolishly did not realize how much more popular it has become and so I didn’t expect it to be so BUSY!! Truly packed to the gills with people…almost comparable to the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Still an absolutely gorgeous and unique building but good lord.

BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE AND DONT BE LATE!!
The place is fun to be there. Make sure you wear your sports shoes and comfortable clothes. There is a lot of walking in the nature.
The places looks like a complete city outside on a peace of greenery outside this world. It moves you back for more than 100 years to see life from their lens.
Very well maintained and clean. Well and grotto are lots of fun. Make sure you read the captions were possible to have background of every price they have built.
Parking is a bit far so prepare for a nice walk.
Entrance is 12 euros for adults credit card is available and there is a cafe there.
I would have given five stars if better road guidance on arriving there and parking were given. Without google and asking people we could not reached
Also the way to reach the grotto and well are very minimal. Should have better directions and guidance inside the facility itself.
Indrukwekkend.
Optreden concert
Klassiek leeft.
The actual park was beautiful. Be prepared for lots of hilly walking. There could have been much more information about a route to see everything, we only discovered the interactive map once we were half way round.
There are several tourist attractions in this area of passeio carlos do carmo.

Nowhere is worth to queue up and pay admission fee unless you wanna ruin your day.

TIP 😆😆Just stroll around, take nice photos, and enjoy your day.

One of my favorite Parks in Lisboa. However, it closes around 8pm which can be annoying sometimes if you want to watch the sunset !
Picturesque local park in Belem close to everything.

Couldn't get tickets for the palace on the spot anymore but for the gardens. It was well worth it, lovely grounds, and great for a light hike. Went up to the castle and got to see a fair bit without going inside and explored the surrounding "garden" afterwards. Well worth going up to the cross and doing so by not taking the well trotten path up but just finding a way up there using the scattered signs. great view of the castle and kids enjoyed the little jungle hike
Amazing View point in Lisboa. Came at the perfect time also just before the sunset. I walked there up around many steps which was worth it once I got to the top. Also there a couple of drink vendors where you can get yourself a drink be it coffee, tea, beers and soft drinks.
The overall experience from the museum is nice. It's a bit short cuz there aren't a lot of things to see but still nice. The Palace is located on a beautiful small square where are nice and cozy coffee shops. It's also nice to grab a coffee or cake and enjoy it from this perspective. Thank you 🤩
One of the best views of the city. And of course it’s crowded. Bit seriously crowded. Lots of TukTuks. Arriving with tourists. And who can blame them. It’s a tourist magnet. And the views doesn’t disappoint. So it you come, keep that in mind. Like everyone else who want this view. Just kind of cope with the crowd.
Experience with guide
Excellent guy was out guide. The way he told us about this place, was amazing. A lot of different types of 🐟 🐟 🐟.

The park is refreshing, the part with lakes is cute and all of it is well-maintained and clean. Complete opposite to the palace. The chalet is absolutely wonderful and should not be missed by no means!! The whole park was the highlight of our day!
The lighthouse may be historic but it’s a very small one and looks dated, potentially not even maintained. It’s located between the Monument of Discoveries and the Tower of Belém, both of which are much more impressive.
The whole surrounding area is great though, so it’s worth seeing it in passing at least.
I spend lots of time here. because of calm, quiet, and neatness. Recommended one.

Mooie tuintjes
It is a lighthouse that commemorates the history of the Belém district! It was stunning.
A small, small lighthouse that is probably not going to draw your attention. Located between the monument and the Belem Tower, both of which are much more impressive

One of my favourite viewpoints in Lisbon. Only bad thing is that they come and close it at 20.00. But otherwise it has a very nice vibe, people are getting together ans sitting on the grass, watching the beautiful city below. Perfect for a date or to have some drinks with friends during good weather.
Awesome selfies point. 😊
